Edlesborough Parish Council comprises nine Councillors in total, five representing Edlesborough, two representing Dagnall and two representing Northall. Anyone aged 21 years or over, who is a British subject, a citizen of the Commonwealth, citizen of the Irish Republic or the European Union and is an elector or works in the Parish, or lives within 3 miles of the Parish, is entitled to stand as a Parish Councillor.

Parish Council elections are held every four years, and it is through that process that the majority of Councillors are appointed. If, however, a vacancy occurs between elections, the Parish Council can co-opt a person who meets the above criteria to fill that vacancy.

The Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government and is responsible for the administration of various local amenities and services including street lighting, bus shelters, litter bins, Edlesborough Cemetery, Edlesborough Village Green (including the Pavilion and play equipment), Edlesborough Memorial Hall and Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall allotments. The Parish Council is also consulted on many other issues administered by Buckinghamshire Council including all planning applications.

Whilst the Parish Councillors agree the policies and strategy of the Council, they are guided on points of law and procedure by the Clerk to the Parish Council and it is the Clerk who conducts most of the day-to-day business of the Parish Council. The Clerk is the person to whom all correspondence is addressed, whether by a member of the parish or other authority, and as such will usually be the first point of contact between the Parish Council and the rest of the world. The Clerk, with the support of other council employees, maintains the records, pays invoices and maintains accounts, conducts correspondence, makes telephone calls and meets with officers of other authorities.
